Short answer. Dense memory foam contours closely around you, and that close contact leaves little room for air to move. The heat your body gives off all night has fewer paths to escape, so it builds up against you instead. It isn't that the foam makes heat — it's that the same structure that makes memory foam feel soft and cradling also slows heat and moisture from leaving. The denser and more contouring the foam, the warmer it tends to sleep.

Most people notice it the same way: you fall asleep fine, then wake an hour or two later warm, maybe a little damp, and can't work out why a bed that felt so comfortable now sleeps like a sauna. The answer is in how the foam is built — not in anything you're doing wrong.

What “sleeping hot” actually is
