Unboxing Guide

How to Open Your Mattress Safely

Your Manchot mattress ships rolled and compressed to fit in one box. That same compression means it expands quickly once opened. This guide walks through the safe way to unbox it — in the right place, in the right order.

Open on the bed frame — never on the floor

Once the inner seal is cut, the mattress expands quickly and with real force. Unboxing on the floor means lifting a fully expanded, full-size mattress afterward. Unboxing directly on the frame means you never have to.

Four steps
1

Position the box on the bed frame

Carry the box to the room where the mattress will be used and lay it flat directly on the bed frame, slats, or platform. Leave the plastic wrapping on for now — this step is just about getting it in place.

2

Tear off the outer plastic

Remove the outer cardboard and plastic wrapping by hand. This layer is loose — it doesn't hold any compression, so there's no risk of sudden movement at this stage.

3

Cut the inner seal — blade parallel to the surface

Underneath is a tighter plastic seal holding the compression. Use scissors or a box cutter held flat, with the blade running parallel to the mattress surface, and cut along the length in one controlled pass.

Stand back as soon as the seal is cut. The mattress will begin expanding immediately.
4

Let it expand — up to 72 hours

Most of the rise happens within the first hour, and it's comfortable to sleep on the same night. Full structural settling can take up to 72 hours.
