Remove the outer cardboard and plastic wrapping by hand. This layer is loose — it doesn't hold any compression, so there's no risk of sudden movement at this stage.
Underneath is a tighter plastic seal holding the compression. Use scissors or a box cutter held flat, with the blade running parallel to the mattress surface, and cut along the length in one controlled pass.
Most of the rise happens within the first hour, and it's comfortable to sleep on the same night. Full structural settling can take up to 72 hours.
